About OUMS
Championing student music at Oxford
Since 1872, the Oxford University Music Society has supported and empowered student music-making in Oxford. Today, OUMS represents more than 600 musicians across nine ensembles, providing opportunities to perform ambitious repertoire, collaborate with exceptional musicians, and take part in concerts and projects across Oxford and beyond.
Entirely student-run, OUMS brings together orchestral, choral, chamber, jazz, brass and wind music under one society. From major performances in some of Oxford’s most iconic venues to tours, competitions and collaborations with professional musicians, our ensembles reflect the breadth and ambition of student music at the University.
At its heart, OUMS provides a home for student-led music at Oxford: connecting musicians across colleges and disciplines, supporting its ensembles, and helping students continue making music at a high level alongside their studies.

Madeleine Bates
President
Madeline is a second-year French and Spanish student as well as a violist and an alto. She is very excited to be leading OUMS this year as President, and has hopes to create an even stronger hub for Oxford’s diverse musical community.
Aliyan Boodhwani
Vice President
Aliyan is a second-year Engineering Science student and a percussionist in numerous OUMS ensembles. As Vice President, he looks forward to expanding the ambition of OUMS ensembles and connecting OUMS with the wider musical community in Oxford.
Looking to the year ahead
This year promises to be an exciting one for OUMS, with new opportunities for our ensembles and a growing focus on connecting student music with the wider Oxford community. Our ensembles will begin performing in the new Sohmen Concert Hall, while, in collaboration with Oxford City Council, we are building relationships with local schools and developing further outreach opportunities with care homes.
We are also launching a renewed programme of alumni engagement, including a termly newsletter and opportunities for former members to reconnect with OUMS and their ensembles. Alongside these initiatives, we will continue supporting our nine ensembles in pursuing ambitious concerts, tours, competitions and collaborations, while investing in the instruments and resources they need to thrive.
