Oxford’s premier chamber ensemble
About us
We are Oxford's premier chamber orchestra, smaller than symphony orchestras like OUO or OUPhil, which means that we also program newer and lesser known music. We are committed to the Alternative Canon Project, which seeks to bring forgotten and underplayed composers into mainstream repertoire.
Alongside playing some fantastic music, we run fun socials, like a potluck dinner and a G&Ds trip, and always have a stellar biscuit selection. We had a great concert (mostly fueled by custard creams) in Christ Church's Cathedral last term, so we're taking that momentum forward, hopefully to a concert in the Sheldonian Theatre!

Student FAQ
What's the rehearsal schedule?
We usually rehearse 4 or 5 times over weeks 5 and 6. Rehearsals tend to be 7-10pm with a rehearsal during the day on concert day. Exact days change depending on when the concert is but we always have Wednesday of Week 6 off.
Where and when do you perform?
Our concert is usually at the end of 6th week, on the Friday or Saturday. Where we perform changes every term so we get to try out lots of exciting new venues!
What's the conductor like?
Euan is very committed to exploring exciting Chamber rep (and not turning everything he does into an opera, as he will assert repeatedly while also programming music involving singers!). He likes a focused rehearsal but supplemented by a substantial biscuit break and his favourite biscuit is a chocolate digestive, which should really say everything you need to know!
Do you audition?
We take our players from OUO, which auditions centrally through OUMS
