Oxford University Orchestra

The Oxford University Orchestra (OUO) is the University of Oxford’s flagship symphony orchestra, made up of the very best musicians the student body has to offer. Since 1958, OUO has tackled a challenging span of the symphonic repertoire, collaborating exclusively with professional conductors and frequently joining forces with world class soloists, such as Daniel Harding, Lilya Zilberstein, Sir Roger Norrington, and Rémy Ballot. Recent repertoire highlights have included Richard Strauss’ Eine Alpensinfonie, Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, Gustav Mahler’s 5th Symphony and much, much more! The orchestra performs each term in the Sheldonian Theatre as well as regularly taking part in special chamber music projects, workshops, masterclasses and international tours (most recently to Italy and Japan with a 2028 tour in the works). In Michaelmas Term, OUO will collaborate with Conductor and Violinist Remy Ballot for a programme of Bruckner’s 4th Symphony and Wagner’s Der Meistersinger Overture, whilst in Hilary Term principal guest conductor Natalia Luis-Bassa will conduct Mahler’s fateful 6th Symphony. Conductor Daniel Hogan will return in Trinity Term to work with the orchestra.
